The Trail of Tears or "People Die Very Much"

The Trail of Tears or *People Die Very Much* *quote from an unknown Cherokee* The sounds have died now But not forgotten The sounds of hoof beats Of yelling and cursing soldiers Of whips And dust And agony And a wet trail A trail made by their tears 4000 died 1000 miles Ordered off their lands between the original states and the Mississippi River    Indians were forcibly    marched –    15000 Cherokees Chickasaws Choctaws Creeks and Seminoles All because white settlers wanted their land.      Andrew Jackson signed the orders.    General Winfield Scott led the troops that    herded the Indians from stockades May 23rd 1838 Federal troops round up and  placed the Indians in stockades. November 1838, 12000 forced on to trails. Others went by boat. Poor sanitation Meagre rations Some trapped on ice in Ohio and Mississippi Rivers Heavy autumn rains were their enemies 3 to 5 died every day They arrived in March 1839 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma They were the first Americans (hell of a way to treat them)

Additional Notes:
I had never heard of this event and came across it accidentaly while researching something else. The numbers quoted varied from article to article that I read. Nobody really knows the accuracy of these numbers.
