Once upon a time

Rays from 93 million miles shone upon his face As he stepped into the sunlight. Too many days indoors sallowed his skin Through the long winter term This old man took a walk through the old trailer courts It was cold and crisp though not much snow falls here He noticed his walking to be a shuffling gait and knew how To correct it so that his steps would be even and not hurt his back Coming upon the ocean he took note of how still it was, and saw  The cormorants and gulls jostling for space on the steep faced rock just off shore They seem to get along he thought. Why can’t others? Like the Muslims and the Jews we all get along here in Canada The droning of an approaching plane – a silver twin engine Convair This sent him back in time to his days as a bombardier He shook his head in amazement. Funny how things trigger thoughts I was right back there in the thick of the flak and that was 60 years ago! Too soon old too late smart said his memories – it was time to have lunch I wonder what I’ll make myself today. Ah chicken soup is good and easy
