Nancy, I love our Mother Earth, being daughter of the universe, since the sun/father and moon/grandmother. Eath's alliance with the sun has made it possible for lifes to evolve. She is the most beautiful planet with the blue sapphire sparkle of water. I'm so pleased when others value their home planet! If we could now keep her alive for the ages. lovely little tanka poem.....you are a 'teacher'. thank you. dellena

This tanka is very special to me. Sapphire is my birthstone and you are my very special friend who didn't know this was a intimate month for me. You take nature to the very element it is, all within the heart, a sparking light that many can not see, the velvet sky for those who have been mistreated or tortured and are now free, one that comes only from understanding in their hearts that Mother Earth will have her way. She is precious, all giving, yet she understands that life is a moment in ones stay here on this earth. All we experience here is momentary, yet all worthy, and the deep intense meaning of this tanka reaches everyone who wants or needs to experience it. A truly well written, to the heart, tanka, and I appreciate the inner voice of this poet. Love, Debbie

Nancy, This is a good one and so fitting for this time of season, lest we not forget what a wondrous place we live. Well done, bravo! Lora

Vision, even that of a planet as a gem among others, is best in such simple statement. Playing on the readers own frame of reference, it calls upon the same and achieves more mystery. Economy with words can be a powerful thing, demonstrated well by our red brothers. As a conjuration, your poem has its own beauty and places earth within it. And from space, the earth does have a sapphire quality. Pleasurable read, Nancy. JCH

Nancy....so much imagery in these few well chosen words. I adore this! I especially love the third line "....sparkling jewel of life...." If seen from the heavens, this is what I would envisualize while looking at our Mother Earth. Beautifully stated. Then..."a sapphire set in velvet sky...." so much color and texture in these words. I'm a big fan of short forms, as they force the use of both imagery, and well chosen words....both of which you have achieved nicely in this piece. Well done! I so enjoyed reading this. Thanks for posting, my friend. Warmly, Mary

Hi Nancy...I too am very fond of tanka, haiku, and my favorite cinquain. You have done an excellent job with this one. I love "sapphire set in velvet sky"...that is so lovely and I wish I had witten it first! Our earth is infinitely precious and I hate what we humans are doing to destroy it. Pollution, garbage, and the worst of all, war. This is wonderful and thanks for sharing such beautiful thougts. Blessings....Marilyn
