Songs Born in the Night.

(After reading Johanna Ambrosius.) ‘Tis hard to sing with a note of hope    When the day is drear, and the clouds hang low, When the soul in gloom is forced to grope,    And the heart is crushed â€˜neath a blighting woe. But the song that is born out of sorrow’s night,     Will gain new power as the ages roll, And from hearts long crushed will hope take flight,    As its notes sweep over the chords of the soul But the song that is born when the day is bright,    When winds blow soft under summer’s sun Is the song to be sung when the heart is light,    But a song that’s forgot e’er the day is done. So, blest be the song that is born in the night,    In the night of sorrow, of pain and of fears, When the sun is hid from the yearning sight,    And the song breaks forth from a heart of tears.   by: Myron Oakman Patton

Additional Notes:
Another of my Great Granfather's, he lived from 1862 to 1931. He was most likely in his mid 30's when he wrote at least some of these. There's one about a storm in 1898 that I'll be posting soon. I had to hide the first post because I discovered a typo.

Ken, Another lovely poem, it's a shame there wasn't a TPL in your great grandfather's day. He definitely had a way with words and I'm enjoying reading his poetry. Thank you for sharing his gift with us. Best, Lora

Kenneth, Wonderful! How very talented he was. I'm sure he would be tickled at the many reading his work after so many years. And they are so very uplifting. Wisdom pours forth from every line. I'm sure you wanted to follow in his footsteps. And you are. You have been much blessed. Keep them coming. Can we add this to the 'best' list? Dellena

Your Great Grandfather certainly had a way with words and making them come alive for all to see. Perhaps they should all be placed in a book of poems thus giving your Great Grandfather the credit he so deserves and allowing the world to be a part of its reading. He further has a nice rhyme effect as well. Thank you Ken for taking the time to once again share his work with us. God Bless, Claire
