Songs Born in the Night. (After reading Johanna Ambrosius.) ‘Tis hard to sing with a note of hope When the day is drear, and the clouds hang low, When the soul in gloom is forced to grope, And the heart is crushed ‘neath a blighting woe. But the song that is born out of sorrow’s night, Will gain new power as the ages roll, And from hearts long crushed will hope take flight, As its notes sweep over the chords of the soul But the song that is born when the day is bright, When winds blow soft under summer’s sun Is the song to be sung when the heart is light, But a song that’s forgot e’er the day is done. So, blest be the song that is born in the night, In the night of sorrow, of pain and of fears, When the sun is hid from the yearning sight, And the song breaks forth from a heart of tears. by: Myron Oakman Patton |
Additional Notes:
Another of my Great Granfather's, he lived from 1862 to 1931. He was most likely in his mid 30's when he wrote at least some of these. There's one about a storm in 1898 that I'll be posting soon.
I had to hide the first post because I discovered a typo.

Ken,
Another lovely poem, it's a shame there wasn't a TPL in your great grandfather's day. He definitely had a way with words and I'm enjoying reading his poetry. Thank you for sharing his gift with us.
Best,
Lora
