Sunrise to Sunset

Dawn approaches, as does living Radiant colors of crimson appear, over the easterly landscape The road behind difficult; yet a more treacherous one lies ahead Light gives one a sense of enrichment Knowing in all directions, hope resides The soul senses that in each, a different amount of time, of travel Noon, generates it’s warmth, causing pause The mind reflects, upon the moments spent Each contains a chapter within this circle of being To continue, upon the journey, is to accept the tolls and dues, paid upon the flesh The hand reaches back once again, to capture the thought Frustration sends moisture, that permeates the brow One wipes, only to find more perspiration follows Droplets roll down these cheeks, cooling the senses The emotions seem to settle, steps reach greater depth The soul looking for a place to rest The breath becomes weaker life lived Suddenly pastels cross to the west This life form halts, to relish in the splendor of being Knowing darkness will soon prevail in                                 Dawn to Dusk

Dear Thomas, This is a very good poem. It's full of rich imagery to describe the time of the day, it has a deep message within each verse; a lesson to learn by all. I enjoyed this read, for the the pure honesty of how life can be perceived. Such as you've written: The road behind difficult; yet a more treacherous one lies ahead The mind reflects, upon the moments spent Each contains a chapter within this circle of being This poem is an offering to everyone - we all can certainly relate to what you are saying. The soul looking for a place to rest - This line stood out in the piece for me. Life can be weary, the soul needs a place to rest. All in all I think you've done a great job with this poem. sincerely, Denimari

Thomas, I enjoyed your metaphors throughout- the comparisons of dawn/dusk with life/death and I believe beauty/unknown (a stretched metaphor but an understood one). Also there are attachments made between emotions/breath, journey/roads, and your analogy of the inevitability wiped brow/continuing journey (sweating). I am not sure whether all of this rolled off your tongue, or if these were thoughts that often capture you, but you did a good job at making the transition and the journey easily understood to the read. Lastly, the use of colors; crimson/light dawn/dusk pastels/darkness- you set the stage as if a fine background technician was setting up for a play at a theater. Excellent read.

Thomas, This powerfully easy to read poem is superb to this reader. Your imagery is so profound and easy for this reader to slip between the layers, to feel all that life has offered and to reflect. No nits from me, a very enjoyable read. I especially liked your last stanza, it puts an eloquent final touch on this write. Best always, Lora
