Family Tree

We have the spirit of cats surrounding us A direct link  to primitive superiority The mystery of  total self-centeredness coupled with  above average intelligence Thankfully we can, (If we choose) blend in a little humanity

Short, but great thought process. Yes, we as humans can tend to be self centered and even have to brains to know how to do it with class. I like your thought here. Rene'

Ken, Well done especially with the depth of the poem in so few words. I like how you depict the family with the life style of cats. Each stanza stands on its own yet they blend together. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting thought Ken ........humans/cats.......do believe since I have a feline friend that you are so right on.......Snowball loves to tell me stories not just about the mice that might have gotten away but when Pretty Girl barks too much, or the little ones leave litter to attact the wild ones.......I know his feelings get hurt like ours do yet he does not cause a stink or fuss loud enough to leave home about. I used to look at dogs and their owners to see how well matched they were in looks and now I tend to do the same with cats.............good presentation, your words bring the reader to many different places.....always happy to find your work on my list. Thanks and God Bless, Claire

oh this is clever Kenneth. I have always had and admired Cats..I love their independance and self centeredness, but I know exactly what you mean when you say "Thankfully we can, (If we choose) blend in a little humanity" it makes living a little easier for sure , of course a lot of people lack that humanity factor..then again I can't help but think that our animal cousins seem sometimes more human than we.. you made me smile, then think and ponder your words. That is a good thing, and means this is a well written poem.

Hi Kenneth, Good to read one of your works again. I'm not sure if I interpreted this correct, bu your piece has a lot to do with human nature - ego, arrogance, selfishness, etc - However, your ending saves the day with that tiny spark of hope - creatures as cruel as humans also have a capacity to be what they were meant to be 'humans' - with hearts that can love and share, etc. This poem goes deeper than what meets the eye. It is rich with a good choice of words. Duane.
