AND YOU CALL IT LOVE

Just a few words on the fickled nature What is this thing, This restlessness, That drives you to search For fulfillment  In so many pairs of eyes. To try on countless grasping arms Test their size and shape, Their feel, Against what you have decided Love should be. After a lifetime of aimless wandering Through a maze of ill fated relationships, You know love's name well, But have learned little of its meaning. Perhaps that checklist from Cosmo is flawed Or their metric romantic ruler Has not worked well on domestic men. I have waited so long, Patiently, Telling you of my love Hoping that friendship Would grow into something more. Could you not hear the desperate cries Rising from my aching heart? I have stood by watching As you gave so freely Those precious gifts denied me. Love was just a word  Carried loosely on their lips, A shinning bait Cast to lure away momentary satisfaction, Always taking more Than their promises returned. Can your heart be so nearsighted That it cannot see this one who loves you so? I ask only that you share this love Allow me to be your teacher And at last  You may learn The true feel of love.
