Angel Piper

We all stood quietly and said our goodbyes to the sound of the pipes floating her away   A fleet of dragon flies summoned as escort A visceral reassurance that all is well   Not perfect in this life but perfect now Proved to me by her perfect farewell

Additional Notes:
Tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of my Mother's passing. She wanted a Piper at the graveside service playing Amazing Grace so we did that. When she was a child she loved dragonflies. She called them Darning Needles. As we stood around the grave and the minister spoke a whole SWARM of hundreds of dragonflies came darting in and out amongst us it was unbelievable. Then they disappeared as suddenly as they appeared.

Hi Ken...If there was an excuse needed to believe in Him those dragonflies should have erased all doubt. Even though there are and will continue to be times when you mourn for your mom but when it happens just remember all thos 'darning needles'....well done. Marilyn

Ken, Such a nice sentiment in this easy flowing, easy to read poem. Succinct in what it's brevity yet it holds so much hope, love and peace. Awesome that you had the dragonflies, they are a harbonger of good in many of the native american beliefs. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us and a most auspicious moment in time. Truly you were given a gift that let you know that all is perfect in the plan that was laid out for her life...God Bless. Lora

Dear Ken, I know this is a difficult time for you, I imagine your emotions equate the way I felt after my mothers passing in Jan. 07. I had a piper at my sons funeral, I wanted it - in front of the church and again at the cemetery. You have written a very sentimental, emotionally charged poem, that comes from the heart. The love is there - and I'm sure she still feels it. Awesome tribute....... Deni

Kenneth, You made my eyes tear. The dragonfly event shows the power of the spirit. I've had a few such encounters myself. he was showing her presence and letting you know she was all right. This poem brings to mind my loved ones, whom I miss so badly. Perfect for Memorial day. Too bad you couldn't put in your poem, the meaning of the dragonfly to it. That makes the poem magic! Good job. Dellena

A superb farewell and an inspiration of life after death as well. I love the song Amazing Grave and I am certain it was beautifully played on pipes....the image of the dragonflies brings shivers as they dart in and out amongst you all. Certainly believable that mom was happy with your celebration of her life. I do believe most mom's called them darning needles so the little ones will not be afraid when they land near by. It is so nice to find your poetry this morning; a faithful poet and a good friend. Thank you for posting and for sharing this miracle with us, God Bless, Claire
