Duane's, "Sleep" As an exercise in illustration, just as much as any argument I might wage in defense of my personal taste and frame of reference, I would like to request each and all, whether contributing poet, critic, or just someone passing through to hold up long enough to read Duane's poem, "Sleep". Read it in the way it deserves to be read, sensitively. Enjoin with it yourself in the moments as you slip from repose to quiet near slumber. How thoughts slipping away into indistinctness drain into the pillow upon which you rest your head. See if Duane has not captured an essence beyond words like sleep captures consciousness. JCH |

I have read this wonderful poem and have left my comments on it. I agree with you, it lulls one to slip along with the writer to this place beyond the pillow. I loved the flow of the words, very lyrical with an innocence and childlike rythm to them.
