SAVING RAINS and RECOVERY

So this is the way it ends,                 this drought which has held life hostage. A few bright flashes across the gray afternoon sky and deep rumbling thunder somewhere in the distance. A summer tropical wave has done what rainmakers or churches full of Sunday prayer, could not, though both will surely claim the credit. Now, a constant shower of large raindrops springboard off green leaves and withered brown blades of grass washing a year's dust back to the Earth from where it came. What a simple medicine to heal this fragile Earth ! And now it begins, cooling rain is greedily swallowed up by thirsty soil. Cracks which formed a patchwork quilt of devastation disappear. Dormant seeds germinate. A countless variety of tiny creatures wake from their hibernating slumber. Soon, the Earth will quench Her thirst. Parched prairies walked yesterday will return to marshes and lakes. Tonight, there will be a celebration. Snails, slugs and all manner of crawly things will dance with Earth Spirits      (more below)              to the songs of frogs and toads  spawning in puddles and ponds. In a few days, a blaze of wild flowers will paint the meadows with a rainbow of color. And life will be good again.
