The Tree

A tree sprang up, a man, an axe: the three all knew what must come next The man's idea: to build a house to house a wife and hold her close The axe had thought a cash-crop field a finer thing for trees to yield The tree though bold could stand no ground so left a curse which still is found on every house: all must come down and every blade return to ground

Truly on a roll this month - flawless - Great rhyme - and imagery - What's built; or born - will turn to dust - but we never no when. Blessings, Deni

Mark, Bones of trees is what I see. When something is built at th expense of taking a life form it could be a curse. We actually should live underground or earthen huts. I like your unprogrammed views. Outside the box... I feel my youth and freeness have been stifled too long. Good for you and your freshness. Dellena

MAH It always comes back to a damn tree, doesn't it? Strange fuse our minds are. Nice fairy tale quality to this. MSS

Hi Mark, Enjoyed the read. It reminds us of a stark reality that haunts this world day in and day out and still, we somehow let it all pass by - in our usual show of ignorance. Your poem is reflective of your awareness and concern. we fail to realise that this must come full circle and we, not the trees, will be the eventual sufferers. A poem that spawns thought. Duane.
