The Dreamer Against Me

The dreamer in me, knows not what he sees. He thinks he has power… Well for that, he better keep trying to scour. The dreamer in me, sees me making spikes in volleyball and goals in soccer, But I don’t even have an athletic locker. The dreamer in me can smile, and think about the past, The joyous things I’ve witnessed, the things that haven’t been such a blast Or the dreamer can take it one step further, and substitute me into that game Where I had all the fame. Oh wow, its a nice role Despite the fact it’s a death-causing blow Oh c’mon now, who am I kidding? There’s too many false pretenses, too much false hope Grabbing at my past like a piece of wet soap It’s not that I don’t like to dream, I dream all the time But often, I don’t like to; for me it’s not fine I have to live through my life, the way it is now I can’t have my own dreams, pushing me to the ground My readers may find this poem a contradiction in terms, Coming from someone who has written positively about dreams But remember, that the dreamer in me, is not all he seems The dreamer in me, lost the crutches, and gained the sports-playing ability, long ago. His life is without question THE BOMB!!--he does have one problem though He’ll forever lack the ability to grow That may be the one solid thing I know So just keep on playing sports, And giving me all those awesome reports. My own problems, I’m out to solve. And somehow I find they quickly dissolve. The dreamer in me, he knows what he sees He hates it, so soon he’ll flee Knowing this, I don’t feel too bitter, At least I know that I’m not a quitter.
