The Key I’ve come to understand
poets begin to write
because of loss,
despair or loneliness
Perhaps their feelings
are too close
to the surface.
Like the melancholy
of tattered edges
that claim and tame
the poetic soul
In an effort to pen
a happy poem
I recall how exquisite
love can be.
How its light
can drown
the darkness
that ever stands
on the threshold
waiting to be
let in
Sadly I’ve misplaced
the key

More of intense piece of writing for you showing that with life there
are times that we seem to drift through not knowing exactly what to say,
and are at a loss for words. In this post I notice you are
soul searching and expressing that in a nice poetic form.
Very much enjoyed this and we have to find those keys - and open
doors where the love, light and laughter are waiting for us.
blessings,
Deni

Cheyenne,
I lose the key too. But as the ebb and flow of the waters moods continually change.
Adjusting and moving is what we do. Hoping things will get better.
The depths equal your heights.....
Good poem.

cheyenne- what a poignant piece. as sad as a poem can be without ever being sad.
"the key" that of memories that recall happiness- your image is so alive it brings a irony to the poem. I cannot forestall the purpose, being of mannerisms that empty me of those images most precious that bring a smile to my face.
once again- your poem, quite distressing in search of redemption; brings a smile to my face from its moniker, its insinuation of life lost in the gravity of living.
"sadly I've misplaced" - the hope remains for the joyful verse. Misplace is not lost. It insinuates the probability of discovery.
A sweet piece of writing.
