THE PARTING

On July 4, 1990, before the crisis in the Middle East began, my son Christopher, a June 1990 high school graduate, left for Texas with the Army for his basic training and medical schooling.  Because this was his first "extended" time away from home, I was feeling very sad and lonely.  I wrote this poem which I feel may be appreciated by other mothers of young service men. A tear is falling down my cheek `A sadness in my heart A yearning for my first born son Because we had to part. I long to see you one more time To hold you oh so near I reminisce the years gone by Of memories very dear. If I could see you once again I'd hold you close at heart I'd tell you just how hard it is When loved ones have to part. A parting's never easy One knows it couldn't be But it helps us grow in many ways To set our loved ones free. This time seems never-ending And I pray the days go fast For when they're done, our fine young son Will be a man at last! By Marsha J. Moore 07/29/90
