"As things are, and as fundamentally they must always be, poetry is not a career, but a mug's game. No honest poet can ever feel quite sure of the permanent value of what he has written: He may have wasted his time and messed up his life for nothing."....T.S. Eliot

JCH "No honest poet can ever feel quite sure of the permanent value of what he has written." I always knew it: all I have to do is put a big enough chip on my shoulder, and I'll be admitted to The Guild :-) MAH

James, The only counter to this is: I as a poet, write for myself. It helps me see myself and is therefore usually a valuable tool that would NEVER mess up my life only enhance it for being able to view life differently. TS Elliot is full of poo. I need never question if my time were wasted. ever, even if I were a bad writer. Dellena

Ok, so I don't vote, I'm not voting anymore anyways unless there are a lot of critiques; and your wisdom, or Eliot’s? Were it an isolated interest; it might be pertinent, so for you, and for me, here is the only truth- the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker- serve the living the poet serves the soul- the end being; read about “rocks”
