Family

they only have heard my farts,                                                                                                                            know the details of my snoring,                                                                                                                            know my smell homebound no shower for days,                                                                                                                            have been befuddled and pained at my “go away,”                                                                                                                            seen the true face of my total depravity.                                                                                                                            others have expected phone calls and not received them,                                                                                                                            emails and not got them, sorries and not heard them,                                                                                                                             compared the first façade against the rooms they have opened . . .                                                                                                                            but only my family lives amidst the squalor.                                                                                                                              this is my poem for them.                                                                                                                             even when I do what I do best they get the short shaft.

I love this light hearted comedic poem. It verbalizes well the wealth our family brings to us in their understanding and full knowleage of us. And yet still love us. Great poem

Indeed relatives are a double-edged sword. Almost always last to recognize your accomplishments, yet first to console your failures. In the end it always boils down to the perplexity, did I outgrow them or did they outgrow me? Perhaps though, that's just me. JCH

Cleverly written. Family always gets the best and worst of it - and at the end of the day none of us are perfect - we're merely spiritual beings here for the journey - to take and make a life and I'm sure your family loves you very much - farts and all - blessings, Deni
