SHOCK The day began with warmth of a promise, The lure of morning coffee gave me peace. Other than the inner nudge violating the calm, ignored with new strength to fulfill a promise. Time to leave, locking the front door, the phone in my hand begins to ring. Not wanting to answer yet knowing I must, hearing words of viciousness never heard before. The terror came spiraling, attacking my reason, shuddering the core of all fibers of my sole. Screaming sounds of horror, sounds of death, never will I undertake this agonizing fate. Turning the direction of my entire life, knowing it absolutely can not be true, My body betrays me as I fall to the floor, disputing the call, glass fragments emerge. My sister observing not yet knowing why. she must depart as her need is at hand, Eyes closed tight as tears attempt to flow, my life shatters, my existence is at risk. |
Additional Notes:
I haven't posted on TPL for years. In fact, I haven't written a poem for over three years. This poem is the first one I have been able to write since our beautiful daughter, Kristy, age 38 and our fun and techno Grandson, Jordan, age five, were killed. We will never be the same and we walk though the grieving process for the rest of our lives. Thank you for allowing me to place my first poem, no matter how it is critiqued, on the first and only poetry site I have ever had.

Debbie,
Yes it has been some time since you posted--while I'm delighted that you have graced us with your words it is with deep sadness and heartfelt compassion that I extend my condolences. Your poem is riveting and speaks to the heart of the reader--we are there sharing the call and the pain--no escape and we grieve with you. God bless and keep you dear one. Lora
