Walking Home
While walking home with a
paper coffee cup in my hand
It was covered with a white
domed lid and a spout
for a set of lips
It started to whistle.
My oh my
what a surprise
to hear my coffee
serenading me
hours before sunrise.
Then I thought
“Perhaps it is the wind
that sings to me so
Its breath over the lid hole
playing my coffee like
a flute”
The sound was beautiful
if only off a little
perhaps if I downed some
just a tiny bit it would
be perfect.
So I drank a mortal measure
to balance the tune within
My coffee stopped singing to me
It never sang again. |

Extremely appropriate for a coffee lover such as myself! I am always waiting for my coffee to sing that perfect song to me!

Joe I really enjoyed this simple however wistful poem. Your writing stirred many memories for this reader, a most comfortable read and one that lends itself easily to contemplation. I like the way you turned your phrases and see no need for any changes in your write. Lora

Joe, It is really a delightful piece. I know the effect. However, you do such a great job bringing it to life; I am sad, in the end, to know it is silenced.
Although we all know the physics involved in wind and aperture- you do something special in not telling us whether this is a true story, or if it is an analogy for something else.
I like to think it happened, and the company left just as you were getting comfortable with the visit!
