What Is Love

What is love  but the ultimate duet  The meeting of minds joining of hearts the slow stirring  of souls What is hope but the love we refuse to give up on  A wonderful dream that  does not dissipate  even when we wake What is life but a living stage upon which  we play, learn and grow are born, live young, grow old And although we are born to die the ultimate marker we have of  our time is the love we leave lingering behind

Joe, I find this poem to be uplifting and interesting. I especially enjoyed the last stanza: "And although we are born to die/the ultimate marker we have of/our time is the love we leave/lingering behind." This really puts a period at the end of what is expected of us before we die. 'Love is the greatest of all' as is said. Your first three stanzas really define well 'hope, love, and life and I truly love how you have written about hope in your second stanza. Well written and meaningful, this is a wonderful post.

Enjoyed the read a lot. Well written poem in deed. I hope you don't mind the sugestion that, the last verse would hit the spot much more directly if it weighed up the questions asked before. such as what is life but to leave behind not just love but hope as well or something like that. Just a thought that it might seal it all off so to speak. Great write. Kevin.

Joe, you had me coming back to the S1L2 time and again. It defines the entire piece. I know there are many who may not have established such a repoire, but you continue on in the verse to amplify the treatise. “Love we refuse to give up on” strikes a chord. It is the only thing I cannot forgive my first wife of. “does not dissipate”, Joe you are on fire in this piece ! The love we leave behind, such an impact if brought back to life from each memory of those who remain. Excellent piece of writing. Missing a comma, S3L4, born, live young

A very delightful rarity: an epic poem that is complete and concise. To me, something that is very hard to do. Like Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Little Wing, no wasted notes, no wasted words in your poetry. And I can't help but be reminded of The End from Abbey Road, "and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make (showing my age). Please keep writing and showing how special life and love really are. Thanks for the post! Sunshine, on a cloudy day, Mark
