New York Nights

And so, in the midst of all the darkness and the sorrow,  I caught a vision of my own soul in a plane of glass on a subway, on a windy night, from a rooftop haven exploring this country, so unfamiliar to me it doesn't matter where you are, or who you are for there is always suffering there are just as many sad people with fading souls  on a subway Eyes so dark they whisper madness a plaintive entreaty gone unanswered harsh longings scream locked in a heart of steel to rot, to rust they turn to dust on a windy night I am the hawk, she is the nightingale I am the hunter, she is the prey my instincts always baser yet I give her the lead I am the wolf, but she ignores my howl silly child lives in a dreamland of denial she tries to be soft and tender when we can crush bones and souls within our jaws I am dominant, yet do not require constant control so long as I may still, fiddle with her strings from a rooftop haven the tale of when I met myself once before, long ago on a darkened road the night gave birth to this two-headed mistress one whole in two parts complete within each other, no room for another within this forest, wind whistling through the branches we can breathe in the healing power of night we can dance within the shadows of a grave we can leave our pain by a wizened tree we can simply, be free I shake myself from the reverie come into my body once more as predictions fall from my lips like pearls and visions blindingly assault my eyes my body sways as the subway squeals to a stop I feel the eyes upon me My soul cries for the terror it feels here Wanting desperately to help, but being drawn away back into my haven, in this unknown city

Additional Notes:
It was just one of those nights, where you feel the power of the ancients reaching out for your living soul.
