Sanctuary for the Lost

An abandoned, burnt down church charred Jesus among the ruins he cries for the souls that believe themselves lost in a sea of inequity in a world running out of time in the faces, so many faces, of humanity Condemned building failed its safety checks mutely it awaits destruction it shelters a wayward child fleeing domestic abuse fleeing sexual violence fleeing a home that was a prison Dark alleyways and cheap motels the back seat of a car afraid, alone turning tricks to survive turning to drugs to get by turning to a cluster of hookers at the street corner for guidance Charred Jesus forgotten and forlorn he cries for the children offering sanctuary for the lost and a haven for the damned He speaks "Believe in me, have faith in yourself and survive." the girl shakes her head mutely she climbs into the dark car with a stranger and ever so quietly ever so silently she shivers as she cries
