King David's Sin

David was once a shepherd boy Lowly, was it, his employ Yet God made him a great great king Ruler over everything Often David did seek God’s face Often God did give David grace David, he would all battles win Except for some he fought with sin (Question, would it now be a fight? If David did in sin delight?) When his kingdom was at it’s height David’s need for prayer felt slight Up upon his tower higher David’s heart enflamed with desire Ruled and fooled by his fearful lust David must have her or he’ll bust - in this sad state he reasoned thus: “This is done by other great kings All their desires they have wings Am I among my fellows less? As a king I deserve the best!” So his lust combined with his pride Seeking himself another’s bride He would obtain her for himself Another trophy for his shelf King David now his lackey sent For the King, Bathsheba to get She would be the king’s honored guest His royal eyes she had impressed! So David knew her in the night His heart rejoiced with sin’s delight Rightly, he knew, it was not right And so he hid it from all sight From all sight but God’s that’s for sure And pure eyes like God’s can’t endure Sin like David’s against great grace Sin spitting in God’s loving face So Bathsheba was with child “David it was our night wild!” David said to himself  “Why me?” Still his eyes could not / would not see Strategist concoct a sly plan David now would bring in her man Uriah he would come from war Beautiful wife would he ignore? ENJOY your wife the king IMPLORED! For Uriah, this was not right “Enjoy now?   While others fight?” He’d stay outdoors throughout the night Bathsheba he dare not to touch Sinning this would be OVER MUCH! David confounded, now distressed! What to do?   His plan, all a mess! He must kill him, no other choice “Kill him, kill him”, said one small voice So Uriah sent back to war The king’s orders he would not ignore Out on the front lines all alone Dying  hero, a pawn, unknown So David wins!   Untarnished King! He will do this good fine right thing (For his dear friend fought to the end) Marry Bathsheba, her man dead And so the King does condescend His hero’s wife now to defend He makes this helpless lamb his own She sits beside him near his throne So David wears a mask to hide His sinful self way deep inside He and even Bathsheba lied And for his sin he cried, cried, cried! So mercifully without doubt God through Nathan found David out God made David come clean with sin Contempt for all that God had been For God had made him a great king Gave him nearly every thing He said  “if David needed more” That He would gladly to him pour Murder, Adultery, Pride, Contempt More of God’s laws broken than kept David was sinful in a high degree David was sinful much like you and me  For if we had David’s high place We may fall to the same disgrace For David fell from a great height Lower we, comparatively slight Bigger we are harder we fall Mercy it is then to be small Taking humbly the lower place Which is best if nearer God’s face Yet when we fall which we all do We may from David take a clue He wrote it well - Psalm thirty two Bring your sin to God to forgive Confess, repent, and for God live For God is merciful so well By Grace His Gospel you will tell!
