For My Grandson To Evan Clark my new grandchild my heart & soul you so beguiled for when i gaze upon your face i know i'm in my rightful place. God grant you wisdom, strength & wealth and happiness & long-kept health for these are life's most cherished things and if these gifts God to you brings. I cannot ask much more than this but grandson i would be remiss if i forgot to wish you love... of cherished things that's list'd above It's paramount...one day you'll see and on that day you will agree but now lets speak of other things like how you've given my heart wings To soar up in the highest heights 'cause for your life i've lofty sights i picture you with great success you'll surely rise above the rest. But Evan please remember this... i hope you understand my gist WHATEVER in life you become I'll be most proud you're my grandson. Copyright Writer's Soapbox 1999. Additional Notes:
Well gentle reader(s)...i must tell you all...i wrote this the very day my
wofe phoned me while i was at work to inform me that i had been blessed with
my first (& thus far), ONLY grandchild. I should say here & now that although
i am sure you will find MANY grammatical errors & such, i wouldn't entertain
changing ONE WORD !! I wrote this poem from the heart..corny, i know..but so
VERY true... & when i read the last stanza to myself, i wept..uncontrollably
& unashamedly... For those of you who have been blessed with grandchildren,
i am sure i need explain no further... I had this poem put into a hard cover
book called Reflections by Moonlight...an Anthology of Verse consisting of
amateur Canadian Poets... When Evan is old enough (he is 5 yrs old now),
i will give him this book & hope he cherishes the love that MADE me write this poem !!
