I am Thankful

I am doused with sullen habits, Trapped by iron walls.  Small like an insect I exist inside  a canister of life, chanting with pursed lips hands clenched tight I prey the lid won’t open. Fate’s fingers  have other plans- They twist the top  spilling its contents,  scattering my defenses. Like dust gathering in a corner  We frolic into each other’s lives Fishing for answers In a murky sea of questions Swirling and crashing Upon the eroded banks Of our minds.  Man’s imperfect world  marred by ghosts and primal terror, mayhem and anger,  insecurity and selfishness. We smile at the ugliness and cling to one another preying God will not squash, such a strange human animal. We are one, but now not alone  I am thankful.
