Chains

An old man stood on the corner watching traffic come his way, a small boy stood beside him eye's showing his dismay. The young boy asked the question why is your back so bent? the old man answered somberly to what he thought it meant. Son we carry burdens all thru life from battles lost or won, chains linked together one by one forged by the things we've done. The way we treat our fellow man as we go from day to day, the things we've said or done to them as we traveled in the way. My chains are heavier with age because I failed to learn, unlike you my dear sweet boy I failed to show concern. But I tell you now in earnest son be careful what you do,      the chains you forge in your own life out of hate or discontent, will beg to ask the question why is your back so bent.

Additional Notes:
I'll probably get some flack on the last stanza, but it is longer to get to the point.
