The Cold City

The snowflakes so numerous fall gently to the ground, And the wind blows through the branches of a tree without a sound. The trucks, the cars, the buses rumble down the busy street, The multitudes of the city scurry by with snow upon their feet. The sights are grim and gray, and of bitter cold, Their hands and faces seem pink and red with a brilliant glow. A street light changes from green to red, By the park near a curb, a pigeon lies frozen quite dead. A screech, a smash, the sound of glass breaking, And yet another life, another soul this winter has taken. Oh yes, the people slow, but none are willing to stop, They are all in way too much of a hurry to get to their shops. Far off in the distance the sirens I hear, The hideous sound, that reminds me that death is always near. The city is cold and without love for its fellow man, And we all struggle to survive the best that we can.

Additional Notes:
This poem is meant to express not only the coldness of winter, but, the coldness of people as well and especially the coldness of death. This poem is definitely not meant to be taken as an insult to those who do not realize what is going on around them but hopefully to enlighten them. Thank you.
