Family Portrait

Such solitude comes as an almost physical shock, an art class exercise in perspective. She stands right beside me and the space between us grows arms. She elects not to hear altogether, and still I remind her not to push away. We embrace and the scenery moves. It is the obvious etiquette of flesh; close, but not too close.
