Slap in the Face It was a slap in the face When you walked away I closed my eyes and held My cool, unfeeling hand to My cheek to feel the pain, Feel the pain you caused me When you turned your back to me When you told me you loved me, I believed you. I thought love was eternal, But I was wrong about other things, too. So now I’m not surprised When you say you want me back I’ll believe anything now… And I believe my trust in you is dead. Did you think I could forgive you For breaking my heart so callously For shattering my dream of us? Don’t worry, I’m way past forgiveness… I’ve moved on. I place my hand to my cheek The scar is there, But pain is numb. Deeper layers of myself And my abilities and capabilities My hopes, my dreams My self Have been revealed Your retreating figure is a mockery Compared to the strength of my soul. |
