A Lover's Lament, So Sad, Boo-Hoo

Let me tell you folks, a little story, a little ditty, About a gal I once knew so fair, so pretty. Her face was fair, oh so fair,  When once I smelled it there was love in the air Her cheeks, well her cheeks were so red and lush And her eyes were so blue she could make the ocean blush. We were made for each other I can honestly say, But circumstances prevailed, and she couldn't stay You see there were some differences - you see I was this sage, She was much younger than me, much younger in age, We set the town's biddies all tongues were a clacking, While the two of us were inside doing some sacking. Pretty soon though even as we gave each other pleasure, In her parents eyes I just couldn't measure ...up to their standards, up to their so-called nobility, That for the two of us, it just wasn't a possibility. I can honestly say that we really did love each other, Unfortunately it just wasn't enough to cover, ...the town folks' eyes - they just couldn't see How deceitful it was; how they couldn't let it be. It's many years later now, and it's plain as day, That it wouldn't have taken much for me to stay. But I'm gone now, gone over the hill, However in my heart I love her [still].

Additional Notes:
A true story. This is the first time in a long time, that I have written in rhyme format, and I would like honest feed-back if you think it has merit. Like should I continue, or do I need more poetry classes?!
