Silver Sorrow "She's gone, She's gone." The church bells sing deep tones In measures long, while birds send out their cry Of silver sorrow," Gone to God alone." The child, just four, with heart of hardening stone Walks the garden, hopeless, wondering why: She's gone, (she's gone!) The church bells sing deep tones. She hums her sad tune to her toys, (no moans Of pain allowed to pass her lips, just sighs Of silver sorrow,) "Gone to God alone." She whispers softly, "Daddy says you're gone, Where are you Mommy? Way up in the sky?" "She's gone, she's gone." The church bells sing deep tones. She breathes a sigh, her natural pain disowned, It is as if she knows that she will die Of silver sorrow." Gone to God alone." Abandoned and betrayed, she feels un-sewn And lives in fear of death, no place to hide. "She's gone, she's gone," the church bells sing deep tones Of silver sorrow: "Gone to God alone." |
