Waiting For God

Waiting for God. Today is Yom Kippur. L'Shanna Tova. Happy New Year. Nowhere to go. Nowhere to pray Except in my heart. My synagogue is the prairie. Feelings of guilt. I am supposed to fast. I am not supposed to work, But I don't do either. 500 Km. from my nearest house, My house of worship. Alone, no one to pray with. A lone Jew, alone at the edge of the prairie. I lift my eyes skyward. God, am I forgiven For breaking your laws? But a Jew I am, and always will be. Are these ancient traditions      only ones that no longer have validity? I don't follow other traditions, laws.      Not kosher, eat pig, non observant. I try to justify in my mind That it is all right. But I have no one to talk to      save myself to hear my pleas for my justification. I am told, and so it is written      that a Jew who believes in God      but acts contrary to Jewish law      cannot be considered a good Jew. So I have failed the test in one respect. The Jew is commanded to give to charity,      silence gossip, and visit the sick. These are called mitzvahs, and I have done all three. In essence I am at a standstill. I am at a crossroad, and do not know where to turn. Which fork. Right or left? I feel burdened, weighed down, and need some answers. So God, won't you please help me? Help me to understand what to do, and where to go. How will you come to me? How will I hear you? Will it be in a dream, a vision, a voice? The silence is dinning. My mind is quiet. I sit and wait. I sit and listen. I sit and watch      and wait for you my lord...and wait for you.
