Silent Echoes

In valor's verdant fields  With ranks turned out in rows  No cadre barks to cadence now  Where distant flower grows  Marked soil with blood and stone  All answered duty's call  For freedom's cause and evil's curse  Withstood and gave their all  Din of deadly mortar  And lead that cracks the air  Gives way to peaceful echoes and  White uniformed affair  What sanitary leavings these  No hint of blood or gore  When youth comes round for glory  And man gives in to war  The hints of honor here  Now gossiped by the wind  The fife and drum and flag salute  Those here who met their end  © VRooks 2001
