A TREE FOR GEORGE A tree for George. Planted in his name, In a place where no one goes. In a place where only the wind knows your name, and the sun and the rain provide nourishment. On a hillside where you once walked and walk no longer I sit and ponder what you may have seen besides the trees and river below me. A tree amongst thousands. Is this how you felt? Amongst thousands but all alone? Swirling thoughts that pounded your brain, and screamed but no one heard except for the wind and the trees and the hawk circling above looking for prey. There is no rest, there is no rest But save for the hilltop I sit upon. Perhaps you sat here also, wondering and waiting for the answers that never came. The peace and quiet of perhaps your favourite place offered no solace - no way out. Above the skies, above the rarefied air, Where the music goes on forever in melodic terms never before encountered, the gold of the sky reaches out to you, and envelopes you, and gives you peace the likes of which you have never known before. Rest on, rest on George. You are home! |
Additional Notes:
