Hello Again, My Friend

Take me back to days long ago, let my mind wander, wherever it may go. Memories of those lazy summer days, when out the door I dashed to play. Idyllic days, saturated by sunshine, that beckoned me warmly, it was all mine. First on my list as the new day began, was to climb the old apple tree once again, Shaking the branches and in my pursuit, finding that perfect sweet piece of fruit. With the fruit in my hand, I'd stroll down the lane to visit my neighbor, my friend, Mr. Crane. He knew I was coming by the dust in the air, smiling, he waited for me, in his favorite chair. I'd greet him as always, with a kiss to his cheek, and as usual, so gently, my chin he would tweak, as he asked, "So my princess, what have you been up to"? I'd grin as I'd answer with a tale I'd construed. "Last night I watched fairies that danced in the night", I'd giggle as he nodded and laughed with delight. Amusing him with visions of magic sparkles she dusted,  he'd smile with the story to him I entrusted. Many hours I spent with that special old man, eager to see him as each new day began, he listened patiently to the dreams I pursued, and returned to me stories of days long ago too. Our visits continued until I was seven, then he left me to join his friends up in heaven. I think of him often, the sadness offset, by wonderful memories I'll never forget. Mr. Crane, I'm sending my thoughts to you above, my thank you for your friendship and giving me your love Whatever cloud you're sitting on, wherever you may be, I know you're sitting up there, smiling down on me. Time passes quickly, we'll visit soon again, Thanks for the memories, I love you Mr. Crane.

Additional Notes:
This is a true story about a neighbor of mine that lived with his daughter and I truly had a special friendship with him. I spent many many hours with him and he did delight in my stories. I LOVED apples and many times as we talked, he'd pare one for me. He was my first experience with death and I remember clearly being unafraid as I approached his casket, hand in hand with his daughter and said a prayer for him, with my only thoughts being I had known a kind and loving man who loved me as I did him.
