Like a Soldier

Steadfast like a soldier I've tried to be strong I've tried to be brave all for you Be proud of me, Daddy I barely cried at all I first buried the pain with alcohol Standing on duty heart made of tin I refused to let the pain back in Look Daddy! I'm a big girl now but I never expected to lose you I still need you and now I'm always on guard I'm taking care of Mom for you but I feel like I'm on watch making sure nothing happens to her oh what a good soldier am I My mind wanders the path of righteousness avoiding all rest stations never straying from propriety to honour your memory -- to honour you I deny my emotions they've been locked away and I know where my duty lies I must not weaken My red-rimmed eyes begin to rust as unshed tears grow I love you and I won't disappoint you Strong and sturdy made of lead denying the fact that my father is dead standing steadfast like a soldier
