Insearch

Insearch Far across the earth I travel, In search of riches, simple, yet divine, Under the scorching ball of fire, Over the dunes of shifting sand, My heart weary, my throat parched, My feet bleeding, my skin cracked, My soul empty, yet my purse full. My future lies, amidst the abyss of shadows, My price unpaid, my story untold, My life for those I’ve taken, Snatched from the embrace of maternal love, Seized from the lives of their loved, Sacrificed in the desire for victory, A cost for the red land. I’ve glimpsed the seven wonders, Drank the sweetest wine, Gloried in a million riches, Amassed treasures divine, My footsteps lie across the torrid tundra, And the wilderness of the sylvan glade. My soul still empty, my purse still full. I’ve trodden the fields of Atlantis, Sought the treasures of El-Dorado, Of silver ingots, gold and diamond tiaras, Yet solace evades me, In the midst of amusements, In the midst of solitude For death follows me like a shadow, From far yonder the mystical mirage, For I seek my life from the dead, The riches of the poor, Of laughter and of joy, As balm for my shattered soul, To soothe its broken pieces, To mend and make it whole, Be my purse empty once more, be my soul full. By, Priya A.K.
