Please Tell Me

I curled up as small as I could and trembled. From the corner of your eyes you watched me. As I buried my face in the wrinkled sheets, scattered with pink and green flowers. That smelt of you and I could no longer breathe and I remember... You entered my life through a broken window, that time on your bed. When I didn't want to and cried invisible tears. So real I could taste they're saltiness. "Do as I say." To frightened to confront the approaching weapon, I closed my eyes and pleaded to be rescued by a knight on a white horse who would take me away. I remember... That familiar pain that swelled in my brain  reaching down into my chest like a tightened fist. Slow motion in black and white. I ran, leaving the little girl inside me to fight the monster with the angry eyes. Never any cries for help. The sliding glass door reflected the distorted images of the invasion. My injured body lay limp, emotionless, as you withdrew your weapon. Leaving an angry white ghost behind. You still haunt me. I remember... I tried to distract myself by reciting a favorite childhood nursery verse. But the words got lost in the struggle. Your fingers outlined the edges of my ears, my eyes, my mouth, my neck. Playing Good Johnny, Bad Johnny. Now I pray every night , that before you die, you experience helplessness, as I did. And remember... I have not forgotten. I still look for you. I still listen for you, in every silence,  in very darkness. I still carry with me that angry white ghost. So, please tell me, why did you choose to let me live only to kill me slowly with your image etched into my memory. I remember...
