Forgotten Melody Shadows of dusk fall upon the walls of my home Their fingers meander leisurely, bearing a transparent cover To hide my musings with a discreet fog I watch as they forge near the forsaken piano against the far wall They challenge my denial of its existence and I feel my heart begin to bleed as each note becomes muted with the covering of evenings blanket Surfacing from my buried memories is the haunting melody you began. It invades my silence with crystal clear timbre I close my eyes and allow your distant solo to again echo its soothing tenor Within the empty chamber of my heart The hunger to summon our music begins to pulsate mercilessly through my veins My fingers stretch with painful longing to feel the deep vibrating resonance captured when our duet became a symphony Tears will not be denied when I attempt to accompany you and complete the harmony of yesterday The staff in my mind is discarded in protest of the sympathetic score written as an encore to our performance Your vision taunts me to rise and approach the instruments challenge I brusquely chase away the lingering shadows revealing to my stagnant fingers The beauty of the shining treasured ivories As my life is put upon the keys I am taken away from uncertainty I relive each note of our union and realize an unfulfilment in the once majestic masterpiece My fingers fly with their own will And the improvisation they find dismisses our harmonious chorus Allowing me to hear the beauty of my solo. I play till exhaustion has its way and my hands cramp with contentment I pull them away from their playground to tenderly give them their deserved rest My eyes open to find a light caressing my fingertips and illuminating the room. It comes from the window of my heart opened when your song left my home upon the wings of the shadows |
