Carried on the Wind

A slight breeze blows, memory stirs. Visions of a beautiful sun drenched day,  play across the theater of my mind. Standing among mangrove trees, at waters  edge, silence thick in the air. This day, dreaded by those in attendance,   our collective nightmare, now reality. Prepared words being spoken, refuse to be  understood by a heart numbed with pain. Hands draped in flowing black, thrust a   beautiful creation toward me. Ritual propels me forward, accepting the   vessel as a gift. Holding you for the last time, I am unable   to move. Lovingly, the lid is removed, beginning as  a wisp the contents free themselves. Watching helplessly, my love is carried  on the wind, free for all eternity.
