Distances Between

Why is it the sky looks so far away, but when I reach out I feel I could grab a cloud? And why is it the distance to the stars is so vast and infinite, yet a falling star looks like it could land in my back yard. And when I realize this comparison, I also feel the distance between us. Together everyday,  but you seem so far away. The distace between us  is so immeasurable. Still we play the charade that we cannot live apart. Inside we both feel the need  to be so far away  from the other. We want to be the star  as seen from the other on Earth. We want to be that cloud free from the other's grasp. Still admired, but not a possesion. So we play the part for the sake of the other's heart When all the while our own heart yearns to be free.
