Abandoned

We met at a homeless shelter The place was full of others just like us Abandoned, afraid and hungry We became fast friends Each of us looking to the other for moral support The days were long The nights even longer Meal time was a break in the daily routine Offering each of us nourishment and comfort "Lights Out" was part of our daily routine But still managed to offer each of us comfort In some strange way Seeping on the floor was difficult But at least we were not out in the elements And, because of you I no longer feel alone Of course, if someone would come and rescue me from this shelter and take me home with them I'd run into my new home, rub myself all around on the carpeting Head for the bedroom, jump up on the bed And take a nap in real comfort I wouldn't awaken from my nap Until I heard the sound of the can opener Smelled the fish dinner being prepared for me Then I'd run, run, run To what awaited me All I'd need then is a ball of yarn And, of course, I'd think of you often.
