Nature's Quilt

Effervescent summer sunshine thwarted by winter’s birth, Passing ineffective against the North Wind’s blast of cold. Keeping nature’s promise of renewal for our Mother Earth. Tints of  emerald green, orange, rust, magenta and gold. Twisting, capering, cavorting, spiraling, descending down, An offering, a gift of beauty, from Mother Nature to warm The mattress of her icy bed, the austere autumn ground. They descend in whispers this quiet, tranquil storm. In measured cadence, to music, lacking any sound, Leaves that cloak poplar, oak, birch, ash, and elm. Glorious hues of rust, gold, orange, red and brown, A quilt pieced together with love, within nature’s realm.

Additional Notes:
I live in the "Quilt Capital," in Paducah, Kentucky and this was inspired by all those wonderful quilts that are judged here every year.
