His Bride's Garden

This man sat in his bride’s garden. He watched in vigil, Waiting for the seed to take root. A seed sowed by another gardener. The man sat in his bride’s garden. He watched in vigil, As the tiny rosebud appeared, Beautiful, of fairest pink. The man sat in his bride’s garden. He watched in vigil, As glistening dew fell softly, Embracing the rosebud. The man sat in his bride’s garden. He watched in vigil, Enraptured by its beauty, Waiting the rose to blush. The man sat in his bride’s garden. He watched in vigil, Drunken with lust for its nectar, His rough hands trembling. The man sat in his bride’s garden. He watched in vigil, Driven by maddening desire, To force open the petals. The man sat in his bride’s garden, Tears cascading down, Onto the defiled pink petals, Within his guilty hands. A woman sits in her garden. She weeps in vigil, For a rose and her husband, Who hung himself one night.
