Round And Round

I ride my dark horse on this merry-go-round, A kaleidoscope world swirling past from the ground. My music's a jumbled calliope sound. I am one with this horse, to his saddle I'm bound. The up and down motion he makes never changes. The circular path that he takes never ranges. He's fixed to one spot, tin music blaring; No gallop, no trot, no nostrils out-flaring. His smile, painted on, now sun-bleached by the years; Except in the rain, his cold eyes hold no tears. His heart, ever still, never will feel the pain That I feel as I circle again and again. I must have known, once, what I was doing, Feet planted in stirrups, the reins so secure. But now I've forgotten  where I was  going. I'm afraid to get off, so this ride I'll endure.
