Field Day

She lies there, tall grass tickles her ears. She tosses her head, her body shudders. With a sigh, the moments over. The grass has relocated. A deep breath, A smile. Wild jasmine, earth, clover, the potpourri of the day. Her feet sway, toes tapping in accompaniment with a cricket choir. Her leg twitches, a loud smack. He met his demise without dirge, an ant on expedition, ascending. Symbolic of snow-capped Everest, now a hand of blushing red. Relaxed once more. Her flaxen hair whispers soft to woven fingers, twisting..twirling, as a monarch bids goodbye to petals of wilted rose. A golden star warms hummingbird wings. The small hand shields her squinted, violet eyes. A nautical salute to downy, white horses adrift. She yawns with arms outstretched in victory V. On freckled cheek, a kiss of seasons swimming by. Dreams of kites and carousels are cradled in sweet repose. A screen door slams. She awakes, tears fill violet eyes. Her body ever in silent slumber. Hardwood floors echo steps,as chrome wheels cross tired doorways. Till tomorrow, another field day.
