Desert Love Song

Wrap me warm in your arms, Love,  against night's bitter chill. Away from town and highway we sit enveloped in sunset's glow  as salmon, tangerine, mauve and purple sweep across the deepening sky. Drunk with color, intoxicated  by the sage-incensed air, we wait silently, watching the first faint stars appear as night slides down the sky  to cover the dusty chaparral. Listen, Love, listen to the silence, so absolute, so complete.  Nothing breaks the quiet spell pressing close around us but the whisper of the desert in the clear night air. Far beyond the gathering dusk the yet blacker line of hills  notches the sky-bowl's edge. Darkness lines the heavy cloak  of silence wrapped about us, holding us close as I hold you. Gaze into eternity, Love, into the ancient depths where the jeweled stars of myriad universes prick the icy blackness of forever  with glittering diamonds. Infinitely near and bright, infinitely far, are the singing, crystal stars in the desert sky. Breath in the soft, spicy essence,  feel each cold pulse of the distant stars, embrace the velvety dark of the desert. Each heartbeat and breath in unison, we stand enchanted, you and I, Love, caught in one breath of eternity in the desert night.
