Times Like These

It flew in rapidly  As if chased from somewhere,  And landed on flimsy perch  So very close to me,  I caught it unaware  Midway through its settling search.  It seemed at first afraid  Of someone up so near,  But gave benefit of doubt  And at its distance stayed,  Though not without some fear,  Always checking its way out.  Moving closer - then stay...  Gaining trust - bit by bit,  It lost its desire to flee.  Lightning flashed far away  And I knew that soon it  Would lose all its faith in me.  The sound soon reached the trees  And startled by thunder,  It unfolded wings and flew.  It is at times like these  I can't help but wonder...  Whatever became of you?
