(a year in haiku) (january) hungry swooping birds battle for the hard brown crumbs thrown on frozen ground (february) icicled statues stand silently in moon-lit frosted fountain pools (march) wind gusts whip up leaves while ripping branches down to mounds of mushy snow (april) cupid's arrows fly high as birds and butterflies seem to multiply (may) sweet blossoms scent air thick with winged vibrations of the hummingbird (june) rippling waters whirl with famished fishes feasting on glinting minnows (july) cicadas' droning lonely staccato racket rises on heat waves (august) oceans rise and crest lifting up their jeweled moons to waiting heavens (september) brown sodden leaves lay in molding memories of long vanished spring (october) jack-o-lantern teeth flicker yellow warning lights of frost's coming bite (november) laughing skaters glide their light silhouettes mirrored in the glassy ice (december) star of bethlehem rise anew to light the way of the wondrous birth |

I placed the titles (which haiku is not supposed to have) in parentheses so we could pretend they are not really there--I thought they were needed for clarification.
