SCREAM

We all have our crosses to bear. I know that's what they say. What I don't know is why I had to suffer because of you today. It's like living in prison, not being able to escape. The dread that lives inside you will  never go away. You already know your future, you've  lived it so often in the past. It will always be first, you will always be last. It makes you want to scream and cry, knowing you'll never know the reason why. It's more powerful than you are. It is perpetual madness.   I live around it every single day, I hope wish, beg and pray. But,no matter what I do I can't make your disease go away for you. I've tried to be strong,to help you get well but can't get close enough to do that. It's your private Hell. If I had a magic wand I would wave it over you and say,"Please dear God help him now and make it go away." Knowing you can't control it, or reason or think, when you feel compelled beyond all thoughts to follow your path to drink. It consumes all of your days, all waking moments in your life, because you're obviously an alcoholics wife. If there were one day without it we wouldn't know what to do. I wouldn't be the me you know who lives with the alcoholic in you.

Additional Notes:
This poem is dedicated to anyone that has endured a dysfunctional relationship. Alcoholism is a worldwide tragedy, for those who suffer with it and their offspring. Treatment and therapy for this disease is no longer made readily available. Unless, you can properly afford it. It kills, it tears families apart and it makes children hurt inside. If this poem touches anyone that knows an alcoholic then I have achieved what I had intended to do.
