Dream to Nightmare!

Wednesday eve began with thoughts of her Saw her in my arms as sleep arrived The longing just to listen to her purr Turned to terror right before my eyes      Several at their home, including me      Purpose of the gathering unclear      Children played beneath a backyard tree      Adults chattered 'round a keg of beer      Curious, I had hoped to see their home      She agreed to lead me - hand in glove      No way that I could have guessed or known      She would once again declare her love      Held each other for the longest time      Tears of joy streaming down her face      Nearly starving lips attacking mine      Months of loneliness, that kiss erased      Weakened knees began to give away      Still entwined we settled to the floor      Eye to eye we smiled where we lay      Then heard someone rapping at the door      Lay in silence feigning empty-room      Hoping the intruder would give in      (If discovered - this could be our tomb      I suspect that lust is still a sin)      Eyes clinched tight as door is opened wide      Waiting for the other shoe to fall      Saw her husband's gun in my mind's eye      Heard the Devil hiss, "You've got a call"       Kissed her lightly on the lips, and prayed      Room was filled with silence and remorse       (Funny, but she didn't seem afraid       Knew the threat, and no doubt knew the source)      Would I wake in Heaven or in Hell?      Hoped my death would just a moment take      "Grant her mercy", I was heard to yell      Prayed that she'd not be...at Fire Lake Jerked awake a-drenched in sweat and tears Asking God to both of us forgive Shaking with the memory of fear More than steamy dream - I want to live!
